Fireworks and Fastballs Baseball Tournament Coming July 5-6

RSC Softball InvitationalThe Runyon Sports Complex (RSC) has officially released the "Fireworks & Fastballs Baseball Tournament" schedule set to take place Sat., through Sun., July 5-6, 2025. 

There are 17 teams competng in three divisions. The 10U has four teams committed to playing; 12U has the most teams registered (seven teams), while the 14U bracket has six squads signed up to play.   

Round-robin action gets underway at 9 a.m., Saturday morning for both the 12U (playing on Salas/DiIorio Fields) and the 14U
(Andenucio/Hobbs Fields).  The 10U division will play its tournament on Corsentino beginning at 10 a.m., Saturday morning.

Azteca 17s Capture Artie Escobado Championship 4-3 over Wow Factor

The Pueblo Azteca 17s rallied in extra innings to capture the 18th Annual Artie Escobado Memorial Tournament Championship game, 4-3, over Wow Factor on Hobbs Field June 30.

Azteca 17s led, 3-1, after five innings, but the Wow Factor fought back scoring once in both the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game (3-3). In the bottom of the eighth, Azteca's Sol Montoya singled, scoring the winning run. Camden Moniux Moniux led Pueblo Azteca 17U with three hits in four trips to the plate. Both Montoya and Moniux were selected to the all-tournament team.

Blake Swift, the MVP of the tournament, pitched the entire game for Azteca 17s throwing over 100 pitches. He gave up 10 hits and three runs (two which were earned) over eight innings. Swift struck out four and walked one.

The Wow Factor was making a return to the championship game for the second straight year. It also lost in the title game a year ago to the Azteca 18s, 10-0, in five innings.
