Dylan Gavin - Head Coach
Azteca 18U
A graduate of Pueblo East High School and the University of Sioux Falls, Gavin has spent the last 2 seasons coaching the Pueblo Azteca Baseball Program. In addition, he has been the varsity assistant coach for Pueblo County for the last 6 years. In all, Gavin has coached 20 players who have signed to play baseball at the collegiate level.
During his 2 year stint as the head coach of Pueblo Azteca, Gavin has led Azteca to a combined 55-22 record; including multiple tournament championships and 2 runner-up finishes in the Andenucio Memorial Tournament. Gavin takes a lot of pride in developing relationships with his players and also developing them as people on and off the field. In the past 2 years, Azteca has also re-established a fall developmental program that competes in high level tournaments and allows for high school athletes to be seen by college programs.
While being an assistant at Pueblo County High School, Gavin has helped the Hornets to an overall 82-34 record the past 6 seasons. During that time, the Hornets have captured the SCL League Title, won 2 regional championships, and have appeared in 2 state tournaments. Also in that span, County has had multiple players awarded League MVP, Pitcher of Year, and Offensive Player of the Year. Gavin enjoys who he coaches with at Pueblo County, and whole-heartedly believes he gets to work with the most respectful and hardest working kids in town.
As a graduate of University of Sioux Falls, Gavin played 4 years for the Cougars (2014-2018). Gavin was a two-way player for the Cougars, helping them reach their first conference tournament in 2016. As a sophomore, Gavin was a 2nd-Team All-Conference selection on the mound, boasting an 8-0 record, which remains the single season wins record, while also hitting (.331). As a senior, Gavin was a 1st-Team All-Conference selection, where he batted (.333) and held a 2.92 ERA.
For the past 5 years, Gavin has loved impacting kids in the classroom at Pleasant View Middle School.
